Using the power of yoga, meditation and mindfulness, we can come to know our true nature by cultivating a connection with that abiding presence within. Moving beyond thought to flow into a deeper experience of ourselves by expanding our awareness. This is the practice of self-realisation, coming to know ourselves, our patterns, our behaviours and our conditioning so we can get out of our own way and tap into the wellspring of our highest, most fundamental Self. ‘The Genesis Programme’ is the meeting place for you and your true nature.

After a restful night’s sleep in one of our blissful rooms, your days will begin with a morning yoga practice. Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘to yoke’, and is the means by which we align body, breath and awareness to connect with ourselves. To meet ourselves more fully and begin to form a deeper relationship through these beautiful forms and shapes, called asanas.
Yoga moves the energy in your tissue, releasing blockages, bringing more oxygen into the rivers and streams of your blood and lymph through the practice of deep breathing, or Ujiyi Pranayama. It releases stress, builds awareness, opens up your tissues, enhances flexibility, gets you stronger, clearer and promotes a unique combination of both inner peace and inner power.
All sessions are tailored to the level of the group, from complete beginners to advanced students. Classes will be once or twice daily and combine energizing and uplifting practices with more restorative sequencing. Our world-class teachers will build the experience around your level of mobility, fitness and ability, and you can also deepen your understanding through one-to-one sessions.
You are not your thoughts. You are the abiding presence and awareness that sits behind your thoughts. When you realize this one teaching, it can be a game changer and a daily meditation practice is the secret weapon of many a successful soul. Meditation teaches us to become the witness to our thoughts and behaviours so we can become more aware of our patterns, our negative self-talk, our narratives and storylines. It brings a deep sense of calm and awareness, and is a great way to support and enhance the healing powers of a mindfulness programme, creating the space to observe ourselves in the present. Meditation teaches you how to slow down your thoughts, which improves concentration and memory whilst reducing anxiety and depression.
Health Coaching - also referred to as life coaching and wellness coaching, is a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behaviour changes by challenging you to develop your inner wisdom, identify your values, and transform your goals in to action.
Our Health Coaches focus on building a healthy rapport and developing strong communication skills that allows you to identify and express your desires to change your lifestyle, without becoming emotionally attached. This activates your imagination, helping you to visualise new possibilities with a clear direction and connect to your higher potential. Pure Balance Retreats take a serious approach to Health Coaching and our team is among the very best and will be on hand to offer support as you move forward and back into your lives, beyond the sanctum of the space we provide.
The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is an intelligent way to solve body problems. People are often mystified by their own back pain, muscular tension and joint problems, believing that these are unchangeable.
As the Technique is practiced, people are surprised that they really can make lasting changes to their posture. The body really is very dynamic and changeable. The Alexander Technique can improve overall movement and achieve optimal health for both body and mind.All of us have unconscious movement habits. Without even realising it, we put undue pressure on our bodies, using more force than we need to.
We tend to blame body and postural problems on activities, when often it is how we do something that creates the problem, not the activity itself. As an Alexander Technique teacher, Jo will help you see what in your movement style contributes to your recurring difficulties -- whether it's a bad back, neck and shoulder pain, restricted breathing, perpetual exhaustion or limitations in performing a task. By analysing your whole movement pattern, not just your symptoms, Jo will alert you to habits of compression in your characteristic way of sitting, standing and walking. He will then guide you to move in a freer, more integrated way.
There are many different forms of dance, from ballroom to disco. Dancing has forever been a part of our human culture, rituals and celebrations. This still stands today, but we find most dancing is about recreation and self-expression. Dancing is an enjoyable way to be more physically active and stay fit. As well the physical aspect, dancing offers an emotional outlet for people to lose themselves in the rhythm but also to connect with others without using words
You may be surprised to discover that trance is a tranquil peaceful state of deep relaxation. In this calm and enjoyable state you will become more receptive to beneficial positive suggestions which will have been agreed with you prior to the session.
You will be guided into trance by our skilled, experienced hypnotherapist who will help you to overcome issues such as stress, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem and assist you in gaining control of your life.
You will be surprised how not only enjoyable, but powerful this therapy is, leaving you with a sense of relaxation and inner peace. A real massage of the mind.
Nutrition - Beautifully Prepared and Carefully Balanced
In recent years there has been a sharp incline in awareness about nutrition and the benefits of a balanced and healthy diet. Our nutritional and culinary experts will create a bespoke nutrition programme for you to up your vitality and increase energy levels. Taking a holistic approach, we use raw food ingredients, which are locally sourced and, where possible, organic. So whether you are vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, wheat free, sugar free, dairy free, or not yet free from anything, you will experience a completely new way of appreciating what your body needs versus what you think it desires.
Throughout your time, your individual dietary needs will be met and exceeded with three healthy meals a day and restorative, detoxifying juices. The key is to turn eating into a pleasure that demonstrates a love of life, a connection to nature and an awareness of what you are putting into your body.
Sound healing is one of those things you just have to try. This can be said about many of these practices. It’s all about direct experience and having all your cells vibrate at a particular frequency is something you can’t quite articulate. You just have to give it a go. For thousands of years sound has been used as a tool for healing and the various techniques all have the same intention: to move us from a place of imbalance to a place of balance. Sound facilitates shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. A similar concept is used in meditation by regulating the breath, but with sound healing, the frequency is the agent that influences the shift. Sound therapy can be a powerful tool for a variety of issues, including sleep disorders, anxiety and depression.
